sorry about the long post, this was my whole chicago experience.

Chicago was AMAZING!

friday we got there and after dropping our bags in our room my mom and i immediately went shopping to buy gloves and hats because this weekend was the coldest weekend they experienced all weekend. it was somewhere around 0 every day.
we went out to dinner with Carolyn (our headcounsler, for you ze cru members who have lj) and her fiance. it was fun and he's funny, i approve.

saturday morning my mom and i woke up in our incredibly nice room and had room service and sipped tea in bed.
then we went to the audition:

i have never seen so many chubby girls in one room in my entire life.
its okay, i can make that statement, i was one of them.
i was interviewed for the making of the dvd, so no matter what, i'm still going to be in the hairspray dvd. : ]

we went there and then they lined us up and gave us all numbers.
there were a little more than 200 people there.
then they called you into this big room in groups of about 40 or 50.
each girl held her number up to the camera and sang eight bars and then went to the back of the line.
at the end of all the auditions, the casting directors reviewed everyone's picture and resume and decided who they wanted to call back.
out of my group, i was the only one to get a callback.

after the others left, the casting director gave me a scene to memorize and a song and told me to go home and memorize this and come back at noon tomorrow.

i went downstairs and the film crew was filming me as i told my mom that i got a callback.
it was pretty cool.
then i was interviewed by this guy from a the chicago sun times, and then a guy from the chicago tribune took my picture.

my mom and i left and went back to the hotel.
the rest of the day my mom and i worked on the material they had given me and took breaks to go get food and to watch movies.
my mom and i drank scotch from the minibar.

yesterday morning my mom and i woke up and my mom went out and got us tea and crossiants. : ]
i decided to warm my voice up in the shower, and i don't think our neighbors were too pleased.
we went downstairs and this russian woman asked me why i looked so nice, so my mom explained the whole thing, and then she grabbed my face and then gave me a hug and said she was so proud of me, nice but weird.

we got to the callback a little early and got to hear almost all the girls go before me.
there were only 5 of us alltogether, i think.
the ones that i saw go in, went in and came out pretty quickly.

then i went in:
first they had me sing the song they asked me to learn. as soon as i started, they told me to stop and they got this guy to come in who hadn't been in the other girl's callbacks.
then they had me sing the song twice and they were smiling the whole time. good sign.
then they had me do the scene twice. they gave me corrections and they told me i picked up on the corrections really well. good sign.
then they realized they recognized me from the broadway show auditions from last year. good sign.
then they took my polaroid. very good sign.
then they asked me if i could change my hair a little bit and then come back in so they could take another polaroid because they wanted to see some of my different looks. very very good sign.
after i came back in and took my second polaroid, they said "we're very glad that you came to chicago." very very very good sign.

they don't tell you anything after the callback because they have to go review all of the tapes and narrow it down, which may take weeks.
but there were very very very very good signs.

cross your fingers.
