CHAPTER 5

The clock in the downstairs hall struck six pm, when Oscar finally made his way down the stairs.

It had been about five hours since Oscar had exploded at his Father, and then at Mr. Lefebvre, and about four hours and 53 minutes, since Desrosiers had come back to his room, and, in return, exploded right back at him.

…And perhaps, this time, it was Oscar who was in the wrong.

He sighed mournfully, before starting as a most enticing smell reached his nose, immediately; he rose, and headed for the kitchen.

After all, he hadn’t eaten all day.

*&*&*&*

He was met with a peculiar sight, as he witnessed Mr. Lefebvre slaving over a hot stove, whilst humming the Beatles tune to ‘Hard Day’s Night’.

Riiiight.

“Mr…Mr Lefebvre?”

He watched, vaguely amused as the man leapt out of his wits before turning to stare Oscar in the eye.

Something that only served to make Oscar’s heart beat a little quicker.

“Sorry Oscar! I didn’t hear you come down.”

“Whatever.”

Oscar rolled his eyes, before speaking again.

“Hey…uh…I’m sorr-”

“Don’t.”

Oscar’s head shot up again, when he’d looked down, he didn’t know, yet he was shocked to see a…a deep hurt in the mans eyes.

“I…I don’t want you to apologise because David tells you to. When you actually mean it, and only when you really, really mean it…That’s the only time I want to hear you apologise to me…And don’t worry, I’ll still tell Dave that you did, whether you do or not.”

Oscar frowned slightly before seating himself by the table.

“Where is Mr. Desrosiers?”

Sebastien didn’t seem at all upset that Oscar hadn’t said sorry, in fact, he perked straight back up again, as if those few seconds worth of hurting had never occurred.

“David? Oh, he went to a walk, and then to Pierre’s house. I think he needed to scream at someone…And he’d already yelled at you, and he felt that I was the victim…Anyway, he likes screaming at Pierre, so it’s ok.”

“Alright.”

The silence was slightly awkward as the two just stared at each other.

“So…You start school here soon!”

Oscar rolled his eyes.

“I guess.”

“Beaubois High School, it’s a good school…Me, Pierre, Chuck, Jeff and Pat…we all used to go there. We really enjoyed it. Dave didn’t go there though.”

“Whatever.”

Sebastien sighed, before seating himself next to Oscar.

“…I should be thanking you.”

Oscar shot his head up to look at Sebastien in an instant.

“Y’know, if it wasn’t for you, David and I would never have gotten together.”

Sebastien smiled shyly before looking down at his hands.

And Oscar didn’t understand the pang in his heart.

“That’s a story for another time, but Oscar, I just want you to know…I…I know that you can’t forgive David yet…And I know…I know that I can’t replace your mother…I don’t even want to. But I just want you to know that I’m here for you, and…I want to look after you, and maybe…Maybe you could give me and Dave a chance, because he really wants to be there for you too.”

Oscar just starred at this man. What was he supposed to say?

“Sebastien…”

Oscar sighed, before he shot up in alarm.

“Sebastien, the stove!”

Sebastien leapt from his seat and ran to the forgotten dinner, burning to a crisp in the oven.

“Aw, crap...”

Oscar almost laughed aloud at the pouting look Sebastien had on his face as he tried to salvage the unsalvageable.

“So Oscar, how do you feel about take-out?”

“Fine.”

As Sebastien left the room to phone for take-out, Oscar scraped the remains of dinner into the bin.

And as Sebastien re-entered the room, Oscar slipped out a single line.

“Sebastien…I’m sorry.”

*&*&*&*

“ARGH!!”

“David, calm down!”

“I CAN’T Pierre, he…he…that little BRAT, he has no fucking right to call Sebastien that! Didn’t Carey teach him anything? Jesus.”

Pierre rolled his eyes at his best friend.

“David. He has just lost his mother, and been forced to live with the dad he never knew, and, surprise, surprise for him, his dad’s boyfriend. Give him time and he’ll get used to it. Just give him time.”

David turned and gave Pierre a weird look, his anger having seemingly dissipated.

“…When the hell did you start making so much sense?”

Pierre chuckled at David’s genuinely confused look.

“Damn, I really have been spending too much time around Chuck.”

As he was rewarded with a smile from David, the pair relaxed in a comfortable silence.

“Are you going back to your place?”

“Yea…I’m not leaving Seb alone with that little monster for to long.”

Pierre chuckled.

“Go home to your boyfriend Desrosiers, and have mad bunny sex to celebrate the arrival of your son.”

David starred at Pierre.

“If I wasn’t going to do just that, I think I’d be extremely disturbed.”

“Most likely.”

*&*&*&*

“Sebastien! Sebas, I’m home!”

Oscar picked himself up from the chair in the living room and ran up the stairs and straight into his bedroom.

“What’s his problem?”

“Don’t worry about it Dave…You were longer than I expected.”

David sighed.

“I was angry Seb.”

“I know.”

David sighed again, this time a more content one, as he felt his boyfriend grasp his hand and lead him up the stairs and into the room they shared.

“You know you can talk to me…You…You don’t have to keep protecting me…You know that don’t you?”

David smiled sadly at Sebastien, before looking directly at the floor.

“You also know…That your son…That Oscar…He has a good heart Dave, and I think, that if we give him time, that he’ll come around.”

“I know Seb…but what do we do in the mean time?”

“In the mean time, we look after him…and keep him as happy as he can be. We can cope Dave, think of this as a challenge.”

“For what?”

“For what we talked about.”

“Adopting?”

“Yea.”

The conversation lapsed into a comfortable silence as the two sat side by side, before Sebastien broke the quiet of the night.

“…So what did Dr. Pierre recommend for tonight’s problems?”

David smiled slyly, knowing exactly where this conversation was going.

“Well, my love, the most effective remedy for my current bout of angst, was some, how did he phrase it? ‘Mad Bunny Sex’ I believe.”

Sebastien smiled.

“You do realize that that has been his answer to every single one of our problems that we’ve ever talked to him about, since we started dating.”

“Yes, but we’ve never NOT listened to him…Don’t see the reason to start now.”

Sebastien giggled quietly as David jumped him, prepared to pay rapt attention to Pierre’s recommendation.
