You know, the general trend of scrapping the themed intros is really making me sad. I do get that now that the commercials are taking up more and more space in the hour allotted for the standard format drama (not so much over here, but if I were an American watching these shows live, I'm pretty sure I'd lose my mind over all these "commercial" ( Read more... )

somehow missed Bonanza.. But I watched Dukes of hazard.. if at a time that I was so young that they are forever emblazoned in my mind as 'dukska viser' -imagine a little 3 year old voice.. what? I was raised in french. I may have spoken english when I was 4, but I shudder to think with what accent- lol, it took another ten years to come across the theme as it started playing and to see the title and make the connection to the weird name in my head...

oooh. MASH! China Beach! Highway to heaven, The vagabond and of course I still have "Yo Joe! .. fighting for freedom, against cobra and Dextro, GIJoe is there! GIJooooe... American heroooo" ROTFLLMAO, and to think back then I saw nothing wrong with those lyrics...

Remi sans famille, Mysterieuse cite d'or, and yeah the Star Treks.... can't imagine a show without a theme... though... I don't think I can come up with the Bones or House themes, ummm. it just keeps becoming a sadder and sadder world.

sigh memory lane. *musical* memory lane...

Nice to see that while I've been out working, you've found a way to keep yourselves entertained out here :)

The thing that you guys might not realize is that all those totally inane American TV-shows that glued the kid in front of the TV until her parents discovered her and ridiculed her into doing something sensible reached those of us behind the Iron Curtain after the Berlin Wall had tumbled and along with intelligent children's programs, we lost the last vestiges of our innocence. Imagine the blank canvas of a mind that got all the 10-15 year old Cold War propaganda fulfilled macho-shows dumped on it... Of course our fledgling tiny private TV-channels just starting out could not afford the current shows so we got Latin American soaps and A-team, Knight Rider etc. Except about ten years after they had been considered even remotely good. For us it was the epitome of Western culture that we were now privileged enough to get a part of.

Yes, I have had a surreal childhood. From one extreme to the other.

umm. the good old american 'everyone else is *teh ennemy*' compaign. I know that back then I didn't even notice the propaganda. but today when i watch old stuff... wow. all these 'messages'. makes you re-analyse all the foundations of your worldview, looking for their roots...

can't imagine doing it from the perspective of the 'other side' and trying to make it make sense
