So I went to school a little early to talk to Professor Hochstetler about this Gilder Lehrman Institute all expense paid trip to New York this summer thing and she helped me start mapping out the application process. In the middle of it she asked me if I'd ever thought about being an undergraduate TA and I said I didn't think undergraduates TA'd at all. She said that they do and she's looking for one. She told me that she wanted me to be her undergraduate TA for her History 103 class next year!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!! I just about died from the gigantic smile on my face. This is after she nominated me this week to attend a graduate lunch put on by the school to help interview the new potential Latin American history teacher. She picked me because she thought I was intelligent and well-composed. Now she wants me to be her TA and lead discussion groups and potentially help with paper grading.
Am I totally flattered? YES.
So not only is she bending over backwards to help me get accepted for this internship in New York but she wants me to be her TA. Freakin Awesome. I have only been in her class for a few weeks but apparently she thinks highly of me already. SWEET. I mean, the only time I've really talked with her was during discussions in class revolving around reading material and then afterwards one day I asked her suggestions on books dealing with the witchcraft craze of the 17th century in colonial America. We haven't even had a whole quarter together. Man. I'm just super stoked.
Now all I have to do is see if Professor Neem (with whom I'm still in love) will write my other letter of recommendation and then throw together a CV and cover letter explaining other reasons that I'm awesome to submit with transcripts to the Gilder Lehrman foundation and we'll be set. This organization is going to pay for me to fly to New York, live there for a month doing research about the Civil War and give me spending money all while I accrue credit for school and then publish some of my stuff. What more could a girl ask for?
OH YEA. How about a TAship with her super awesome Professor Laurie Hochstetler who specializes in Colonial America my favorite period? Yea, that'd pretty much wrap it all up. AWESOME.
