Any answer would be a bit flawed for me because most games have tense settings where there's war and strife and usually magical, opposing forces struggling to take over land or destroy the world or something. I found it hard to pick one because I kept that in mind. In the end, my answer is Final Fantasy XI, specifically the Federation of Windurst. Yes, there are beastmen everywhere and the nations are on tense relations and there are all kinds of catclysmic events going on, but as I said before, I was kind of hard-pressed to find a world that didn't have some kind of scary things going on at all times. I love the look of the three nations you can chose as your home in FFXI, and Windurst is just beyond beautiful. The Tarutaru are awesome, and the whole city is pretty much my dream environment - forested, lush, lots of water and stone structures. If the damn
signet ring at the store didn't cost so damn much, I'd buy it. Windurst for life.
Dragon Age 2 has been tons of fun so far. Yeah, I think it's a little on the lazy side that every cave has had the same layout so far, but otherwise I have no complaints. It's just like Origins with more conversation options and voice acting for the main character! And
Balthier voices Fenris! It's addictive, just like the first one. I'm playing a female warrior who will probably be ending up with Anders. Yes, romance is the most important thing. I am amused that he's decidedly gay if you play a dude and decidedly straight if you're a girl. This tells me that Anders just wants in the Champion's pants, period. I love Merrill to death but don't see this version of Hawke I'm playing as being into women. I think I actually have a strong RP voice for her I might try out soonish. She's just too much fun. I love Varric to bits because he's just all kinds of awesome, and I even like Fenris quite a bit more than I thought I would. I like him perhaps a bit more than Anders but don't see a romance working out unless he undergoes some changes, what with my character's adamant defense of mage rights and best friend status with Merrill.
The story seems just fine, but I've just been so engrossed in doing Every. Quest. Ever. Now that I'm used to combat, it doesn't seem much different than the first game. Which makes it good times. I'm thinking or trying out a mage next time around. I liked being a healer in that game too.
