Character

Name: Luca Trulyworth
Fandom: Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Time Period: After completing the Infelsphere
Wing Color: Purple tipped with red
History: wiki
Personality: For someone for whom the term 'dorodere' was invented for, Luca comes off as being cheerful and kind to those who don't know her too well, working as a Dive Therapist in Rakshek. The real Cloche Leythal Pastalia, and thus, the actual 33rd Maiden of Homura, Luca has gone through a lot in her life, which has caused her to become fairly messed up on the inside, something that Croix begins to discover as he Dives deeper into her Cosmosphere. For the most part, the kind and cheerful front is all that people see of Luca. She's well-liked around Rakshek, and popular among the residents of the town, due to her personality and her job as a Dive Therapist.

Luca's relationship with her mother, Reisha, is strained at best, due to the way Reisha began to act towards Luca in the years after Leyka, Luca's younger sister, was taken away by the Grand Bell. Although Reisha truly cares for Luca, and doesn't want Luca to be hurt should the Grand Bell ever come for her, Luca grows up believing Reisha hates her. As far as she's concerned, the day Leyka was taken away and Batz killed was the end of everything. This strained relationship causes Luca to barely acknowledge her mother on visits home, preferring to head straight to her room. This relationship is further strained by the knowledge that Luca is not Reisha's real daughter, but, rather, the daughter of the 32nd Maiden of Homura, Lady Arshe, who was killed in a coup when Luca was still young. Though Luca has no memory of her real mother, she accuses Reisha of never wanting to take her in, and seeing her as a burden, which isn't true.

Despite the strain in the relationship, though, Luca doesn't necessarily truly hate Reisha, herself, as much as she finds herself conflicted over her feelings for her surrogate mother. This is reflected when Luca tells Croix that it's just too awkward to speak to Reisha at the moment. When Reisha dies saving Luca, though, she comes to terms with her feelings, and goes as far as to try saving Reisha from dying with her Song Magic, along with Chroche. When that fails, Luca breaks down, and admits to Reisha that she never hated her, and had always thought it was the other way around. She becomes despondent after Reisha's death, but resolves to continue onwards to creating Metafalica for her sake.

Inwardly, Luca has a lot of issues, ranging from her relationship with Croix, to her search for Leyka. Her relationship with Croix was initially just Luca using Croix to try to find Leyka, for one, and when she reveals this fact, they have a falling out which almost leads to them parting ways. Luca's initial impression of Lady Chroche is also far from positive, and Luca goes as far as to blame her for Leyka's death when she finds out her sister's possible fate from an IPD who had been moved into Leyka's room in the labs. Luca's Cosmosphere, as well as the Infelsphere in Luca's route, explores her inner feelings on these subjects, and what she really thinks of people, versus how she outwardly acts towards them. Her Cosmosphere is also dangerous; Croix is nearly killed on more than one occasion, as Luca doesn't wish for him to see her true feelings. Outwardly, however, Luca comes off as a people pleaser, who is kind and friendly to everyone, while bottling up her real feelings. Occasionally, however, she does tend to display feelings of jealousy, especially when it comes to Croix and his friends, and can be fairly suspicious of other girls.

Luca is also a terrible cook, bordering on being a dangerous cook, though arguably, none of the Reyvateils in Ar Tonelico II can cook. A running joke involves her food being suitable for throwing at monsters.

Strengths:

Luca is the Maiden of Homura, and through a process called the β-Extraction Ceremony, performed when she was still a small child, is capable of using EXEC_/.-type Song Magic, something third generation Reyvateils normally can't do, through the use of Frelia's D-Cellophane. This allows her the use of Frelia's Hymn Code, and authorization to sing powerful songs such as EXEC_VIENA/.

Luca is also a skilled Dive Therapist, capable of using Dive Therapy to cure IPD symptoms in affected IPDs, as well as perform Proxy Dives, which she did for Croix once when Chroche would not allow him to enter her Cosmosphere.

As a part of her Dive Therapist job, Luca is capable of sectioning off a portion of her own Cosmosphere, effectively creating a mental shield of sorts, to allow her clients to enter a world where they can relax and not worry about the things that trouble them.

Luca also is a very friendly person, or at least seems to be. She's very well-liked, and does her best to get along with everyone. This has made her very popular as a result, especially among her clients.

Weaknesses:

Luca is a third generation Reyvateil, and has a much shorter lifespan than that of a Pureblooded β-type, her life expectancy being that of around 40 years. Even then, that's with the constant need for Diquility, a 'Life Extending Agent' that has to be administered every three months, or the Reyvateil will die for certain. In terms of Song Magic, Luca's is weaker than the Song Magic a β-type can produce, and she lacks a Hymn Code, which normally would not allow her to sing EXEC_/.-type Hymns; the only way she is capable of executing Songs such as EXEC_VIENA/. is through the use of Frelia's D-Cellophane.

Because Reyvateils are completely defenseless while singing, Luca must rely on someone to defend her while she sings, or else she is otherwise open to attack.

She is also a terrible cook, and practically nothing she makes is edible. In the manga, this is hilariously demonstrated when she brings food to Chroche that she cooked herself; the steam from the dish sinks to the floor instead of rising upwards.

Although Luca outwardly comes off as a cheerful and friendly girl, she's actually deeply hurt as well as slightly disturbed on the inside. The deepest layers of her Cosmosphere reflect her innermost thoughts and feelings, as well as her true self. She attempts to kill Croix more than once as he navigates her Cosmosphere, not wanting him to see her true self.

Because of the events of that fateful day Leyka was taken away, during which Batz was killed, Reisha's subsequent treatment of Luca, as well as the discovery that she wasn't really even Reisha's real daughter, has caused a lot of conflicts for Luca. Not knowing who she really was, and wanting to be loved by people, Luca hides her true thoughts and feelings from others, and instead masks these feelings by playing the role of a homely girl next door, Luca the Dive Therapist.

First Person: E-Excuse me! I'm guessing this journal is working, so if someone could answer a few of my questions...! I'm just making sure of this, but all of this really isn't some kind of crazy dream I'm having, right!? It just seems all too surreal to be true, to be honest... I mean, wings? I know the Goddess has them, but it's not really something I would picture having myself.

A-Anyway! My name is Luca Trulyworth, and it looks like I'm new here, in this... village. I have a few more things to ask, if somebody doesn't mind answering them, but they can wait. Well, in general, I think I'd like to know what's going on, exactly! It's not exactly everyday that you find yourself kidnapped, after all! [Nervous laughter.] Or with... wings? How did that happen, anyway...?

Also... it's kind of cold out here, don't you think?

Third Person: To say that Luca was a little lost was an understatement. She had been in the village for a few days now, and things still made no sense to her than they did when she had first arrived. On top of that, there was still the mystery of how she came to be suddenly possessing a pair of wings, and she hadn't found anyone she knew yet, either.

Of course, the question was- would they be here? If Luca had to hazard a guess, she might have initially suspected that her captors, whoever they were, would have taken only her, for whatever reasons existing. She was the real Chroche, the real Holy Maiden, after all, though those thoughts seemed so very foreign to her. Maybe this was... retaliation for the failed Metafallica attempt? Theories and ideas swirled through her mind, though nothing particularly stood out as being the ones that would answer her questions.

On top of that, Luca couldn't help but feel a tad lonely and abandoned, as well. Mom, Leyka, Croix... Reisha was gone and Leyka had turned out to be the 'fake' Lady Chroche that she had never been able to get along with until recently. It would figure that she had been separated from them, wouldn't it? And where was Croix now, anyway? What would happen to their dream of bringing Metafallica into reality? Biting her lip to stop herself before she started to cry, Luca forced a cheerful smile on her face, the usual mask she put on when she was among others. First things first- she'd have to get herself settled into this place, if she was going to be staying here awhile. She would look for a job, so she could earn money, and start from there.

Somehow, she'd make it through. She had to.
