Last Wednesday night I went to The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses - The Second Quest, which references that this is the second go-around of Zelda concerts that originally began 2 years ago to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. More specifically, it's for those cities in which the concert is returning to play for their second time.
Unlike last year in March, I went to this one at the Orpheum by myself and this time, wore my dark green Ocarina of Time t-shirt. I had a 15% discounted ticket through
Club Nintendo and had a really good seat: Row 12, Seat 34, Left Center Orchestra. I managed to snag a t-shirt and poster (poster is final picture at the bottom) for $30 and noticed that these were new ones and not the same ones as previous. While I had to wait over 10 minutes in line, I got ahead of people because I was the next one that a lady says will only take cash payments. And since I was paying by cash... hehehe. The turnout was better than last time though it seemed there were some empty seats again. I think like before, the advertising wasn't very good and while the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra did some advertising, I think there were extra people because of word-of-mouth. Besides the VSO playing the music, the
UBC Opera Ensemble was called to do vocals. I didn't do very well on pictures as I obviously had to be discrete. My main focus was getting pictures of one of the woofiest villains in video game history: Ganondorf. But once again, it's not easy and there wasn't much footage of him. :(
At 8pm the first set began and this time, there was a different conductor: Susie Seiter. There was no program and while they gave the names of the songs they were performing, it can be hard to know which ones to link to the video on Youtube. These are my guesses and a few may be inaccurate:
Set 1:
Overture: I think this was what they played as their opening. A mix of different themes from some Zelda games.
Link's Awakening Medley: I was so glad they did Link's Awakening!
Spirit Tracks Medley: Another game I'm glad they did! I hope they do Phantom Hourglass in the future as a medley!
Ocarina of Time - The Prelude: This comes from Ocarina of Time's "Creation of Hyrule" scene.
Ocarina of Time Symphonic Arrangement: Same as last year's and still lovely to hear.
Wind Waker Symphonic Movement: I still loved this piece from last year. There is all-new footage from the recently released Wind Waker HD for WiiU.
There was a 20 minute intermission and I only got up to stretch my legs and walk around. Some people were in costumes and others wearing awesome Zelda-based t-shirts. We resumed with Set 2 at around 9:30pm.
Set 2:
Ocarina of Time - Gerudo Valley: Not a bad piece.
Twilight Princess Symphonic Movement: Like last year, this was still an epic piece.
A Link To The Past Medley: I'm glad they played this again from last year. It makes sense since a sequel (almost 22 years later???) to A Link To The Past is coming out soon for the 3DS called A Link Between Worlds.
Majora's Mask Medley: I knew they would play this again.
Wind Waker - Dragon Roost Island: This was a different one and not bad. Was nice to see it in Wind Waker HD footage.
Skyward Sword - Ballad of the Goddess: I still haven't played Skyward Sword but it's likely to become a reality next year.
There wasn't anything after the concert so I left promptly. Peter picked me up from Edmonds skytrain station and took me home but he had to spend the night with us so he could take David to catch an early morning ferry to Victoria.
I have no regrets to going to the Second Quest concert and hope there will be a third one! For more information and to see if it's coming to your area, go to the main website
