June 2011 Monthly Entry

So my beloved Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup Final last night to the Boston Bruins with a score of 4-0. Everyone in Vancouver, Canada, even fans across the world are so disheartened to see the Stanley Cup we worked so hard for to be taken away again. Vancouver has never won a Stanley Cup in its 40-year history and the last Canadian team to win it was the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. The last time Vancouver was in the finals was in 1994 against the New York Rangers. I was 12 years old and I remember watching that game. I also remember seeing how distraught the Canucks were and it was such a sad sight to see them view themselves as failures. While obviously feeling the same thing 17 years later, a riot broke out in downtown Vancouver and police were out in full force. Stores were getting looted and police cars were getting set on fire. I guess things never change. On a light note, Vancouver fans in Rogers Arena gave a standing ovation to Boston and also cheered “Go Canucks Go!” even when the Canucks were heartbroken at their loss. The Canucks had a great year and we were the highest ranked team in the entire league.

It seems a little ironic as popular video game company Electronic Arts here in Burnaby predicted that Vancouver was poised to win the Cup last night. They predicted the last two years pretty accurately and so it was enough to bet that they were right this time. I guess they now have a blotch on their record. Looking back at some of the games in the series finals, the referees have once again shown their bias towards the Canucks and keep proving that even in the NHL, hockey games can be rigged if you pay off the referees and judges with enough money. I don’t say this as a kind of excuse, but even back in 1994, I remember how the Canucks were getting screwed. I also admit that the Canucks didn’t seem to be playing 100% their best. They missed passes, missed good opportunities to shoot, and as usual - they keep spending so much time trying to set the puck up when a Boston player is skating up to them that they have to make snap decisions on what to do.

Here are some pics of the cute bearded players and the shameful riot last night. To all you guys that cheered on Vancouver, I thank you. We here in BC are embarrassed by the riot as it served no purpose but screw us taxpayers and harm the innocent.

The weather has finally gotten warmer in Vancouver but not unbearably hot. It has been mostly overcast with a mix of sun and small patches of rain. Summer is arriving next Tuesday so things will be a lot more cheery and alive in the city. It’s the time of year I always look forward to.

About 3 weeks ago I finally finished the yearly parkade washing at work. I sacrificed so much time and energy to get it done quickly and was a week after the stupid deadline that was placed on me. I’ve basically caught up on all my regular duties now and will look into doing a few smaller projects this summer so I can get my boss off my back and hopefully decrease complaints from the Strata. A couple weeks ago my boss took a week’s vacation to Mexico and his dad took his place to run things. Since he obviously cannot observe every building the company has contracted, he would only show up in the mornings and see how things are and then leave and we wouldn’t hear from him again except in emergencies. It was so awesome just to work without having to worry about my boss showing up - in fact, I was working harder since I could do what I want. It’s what I always prefer as an ideal janitorial job: just come to work, do my job, take my breaks whenever I want, only call the manager if I need anything or him call me to report something, and leave at a reasonable time when work is finished. My first job was like that and I loved it but I never had anything like that since then and such jobs are hard to find these days. Either than a couple of minor complaints, my job has been slow since my boss came back and hope it stays that way for most of the upcoming summer.

A couple weeks ago we have acquired a temporary third person living with us to help out with the finances. His name is Peter (prefers to be called “Pete”) and is around his early 20’s. Sadly, he has Asperger’s so his social interaction is hampered and so are some of his behavioural traits. Obviously it’s not the guys’ fault and he has a mother with schizophrenia who also doesn’t accept his being gay. He chose to live here to get away from his living situation. He is on disability pension so he gets a monthly income and at least half of it goes to my Daddybear to help pay the rent and bills. While living with him has been difficult for both of us, my Daddy seems less depressed as he can afford all the bills and rent. It will also relieve me a little as I don’t have to give quite as much money a month as I used to. While it would take a long time for my Daddy to repay his debt to me, this will at least chip at it further. Pete can be noisy, especially at night and if I have to sleep in my room, it’s right next to his and he puts on his music and talks to himself at a normal tone. Sunday night I went to bed at 2am and he didn’t finally shut down until 3am in which I finally went to sleep. Of course, I had to work in the morning so I only got to sleep about a few hours. He also doesn’t clean up after himself much. Sigh... I have again become the "mother of the household": a full time job and doing chores after work while everyone else does nothing. Why I stay here is beyond me... (rolls eyes).

Last Wednesday night I watched the last episode of the first half of Season 15 of South Park and it seems the show is still downhill. I liked the first episode “HUMANCENTiPAD” and a couple others were all right but some episodes like “Funnybot” were not even funny. Ever since the 11th season, I’ve noticed the decline of good episodes on South Park and good ideas not being executed properly compared to the first ten seasons in which any idea the creators conjure up is usually hilarious. I hope the second half of Season 15 later this year will have some better episodes.

I finished watching the rest of Season 2 of Disney’s Gargoyles which was pretty good though some of the art and animation kind of goes downhill compared to the first season. The non-canonical Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles in Season 3 was okay but the animation quality still suffers and the story focuses on human discrimination of the gargoyles. Like I mentioned last month, the second half of Season 2 and all of Season 3 were downloaded episodes because Disney has yet to release them on DVD and likely won’t. I own Season 1 and the first half of Season 2. I’ve now started Season 1 of Star Trek: The Next Generation which are downloaded copies that Shane prepared for me last year. It’ll take me months to watch every episode but will let you guys know my progress. So far, I’m liking TNG and seeing the introduction of characters and settings. I watched a few movies and the first was Toy Story 3 on Blu-Ray. It was awesome to see it again though I wish they could make Woody and Buzz lovers LOL! On Turner Classic Movies I saw Great Expectations (1946) last week which is based on the Charles Dickens novel. I’ve seen it sometime ago and it’s always an enjoyable classic. Mr. Jaggers, played by the late actor Francis L. Sullivan (pictured from the movie above) was a beautiful chub! Lastly there was the original 1982 movie Tron on YTV last Saturday night. I haven’t seen Tron: Legacy yet but the original is a cult classic. It inspired lots of people to get into the video game and computer animation industries. I’m pretty early in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption but I’ve seemed to have gotten used to the controls. I’m just about done Final Fantasy IV for the DS, in fact I can go and finish the game now but I’m trying to pick up some augments (special abilities) that I missed and I’m trying to get a very rare item from an enemy which is slowing me down. I hope I can review the game by the end of the month.
