She knew. She couldn't have quite said how, but somehow, just setting foot in his treehouse, Jenny knew that Dan was gone. Something about the place, and not just because he wasn't there when he said he'd be, felt unsettlingly empty. It wasn't a sensation she could explain, but she felt his absence all the same. Still, no matter what she suspected, she couldn't allow herself to assume the worst just yet, if only because of what that would mean. She paced around the treehouse for a while, headed down to the beach, checked the places in the Compound she'd thought he might be and came up with nothing. The more time passed, the more obvious it became. All the same, she took one last trip back to the treehouse. Maybe they'd just missed each other; maybe he was waiting there for her like he had said he would be and everything was fine and she'd gotten worried over nothing.

Of course, he wasn't there, and Jenny had no choice but to go back to the room she shared with Chuck and Eric. She didn't even begin to know what to say, let alone what to do -- there had to be some sort of protocol for this, someone she was supposed to tell, but just then, she couldn't. All the same, she couldn't be alone, either, not with it becoming increasingly clear that Dan was gone. It was her fault, of course. If she'd been there more, if they hadn't been fighting, if she hadn't gone to Chuck about Dan and Blair --

With a shake of her head, she cut herself up abruptly, pausing outside the doorway to her room before taking a deep breath and walking in. It was just Eric in there, which was fine by her; without even pausing, she flopped down on Chuck's bed, drawing her knees in to her chest so she could rest her head on them. "I think my brother's gone," she said without preamble, without even glancing up. Just then, she didn't have the energy to manage small talk. She had no idea how the hell to deal with something like this.

nate, chuck, eric
