Prompt: Does your partner have a good sense of humor?
Note: For dude_imbatman who enjoys the fact that a big bad angel still prays to Daddy. ;)

“See what they spew from their mouths- they spew out swords from their lips, and they say, ‘Who can hear us?’ But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you scoff at all those nations.”

Prayer is a powerful tool. If they are His messengers, prayer is a direct plea for Him to listen. But He has a sense of humor that is as expansive as His sense of love.

Castiel bent his vessel's head to regard the grass under his feet, every blade revered as his Father's creation. In the past days, he found himself naming Dean Winchester in his prayers first. Give him strength, he'd ask, and wisdom to do what must be done no matter the cost or the difficulty. He was groomed for this destiny as his brother groomed for his own.

He recalled his prayers before he'd met Dean; when he asked for a task to show his love and devotion for his Father. Breaking the barrier and pulling the man out at His behest was a duly just action. Castiel knew when he made contact with the soul that it was pure. It would be an asset to helping them win this war they were fast approaching.

Now he moved on to Sam Winchester -- regardless of the tainted blood coursing his veins, he needed guidance and enlightenment as much as anyone. The struggles he faced were not lost on Castiel but he wasn't convinced that Sam was strong enough to defeat them. He named Dean, again, to help him.

When he was informed of Dean's relationship to Sam, the champion and the beast so closely bound, Castiel knew his Father's sense of humor. It was a somber sort of irony, but Castiel had begged for this opportunity to show he wouldn't waver in the face of his duty. He observed the humor of Azazel, cloaking his Lieutenant Beast in a once pious boy, protected by love not seen by most humans that Castiel had encountered.

The humor was all around him, but Castiel could not take part in it. He bent with the weight he bore and knew what it was to be tested. He didn't want to break -- he didn't want to fail his Father, but he was not sure how long he could steady himself.

Let not the day come that he chose not to.
