5. Captain Marlow kisses someone he shouldn’t. Who?
It might have been a kiss under some mistletoe at a party, but there are kisses and kisses, and the young, drunk Lieutenant Marlow certainly shouldn’t have kissed Commander Walker’s wife like that. It wasn’t as if she had been doing anything to suggest she would welcome such behaviour. Mary Walker fixes him with a cold gaze and says “That had better not have happened.”
He never heard anything about more the incident, but still very occasionally wakes up in “sheet kicking embarrassment” when it surfaces in his memory on some sleepless night. He thinks he would have been less bothered if she had seemed even the slightest bit ruffled by it.
(Oh, but I could have made a much better story with different characters from my list.)
