Favourite colous

In infant school, "What is your favourite colour?" was a favoured conversational starter. For all I know it still is. It was, however, puzzlingly ineffective when talking with adults. Some of them didn't even seem to know what their favourite colour was. Follow up questions revealed that some of them didn't have a least favourite colour either. And

My favourite is yellow, all shades of yellow... I do like intense colour (which may not be bright, if you know what I mean?) like jade and crimson and many many purples...

OTOH, we just redid our bathroom in white and grey. And my bedroom is pale pink. Go figure.
