I've been trying to learn Japanese off and on for the past two years, so when my employer bought this antique cabinet, she though I could help her figure out what it says. It has some very strange, what looks to be, large kana markings on the back, although we're not sure. All the antique certificate says is that it is from Japan, early 1900s.
The kana itself looks like first, a w, yet very rounded and curved, then what seems to be a backward version of the katakana "chi." If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it!
