Hey,

Anyone know the difference between 状態 and 状況? Everytime I use one thinking it's for that particular situation, my teacher usually corrects it to the other.

What I keep getting for the first one is: current status, condition, situation, circumstance, and state.
For the second one, I keep getting: state of affairs (around you), situation, circumstance.

Sometimes I understand the differences between two words with similar definitions into context by searching them on google or wikipedia.

状態 - when I wiki this, I'm linked to discussions on STATE of matter like solid, liquid, and gas. So I guess this "state, condition" is like

and 状況, when I google it, I get a page from MSN about train schedules, and the STATE of the trains moving. It lists cities/regions and whether or not there are delays/accidents currently there.

Context sentence:

MSN 路線では、列車運行状況を提供しています。

***

I don't know if that covers all the dimensions of these words, but hopefully this clears it up somehow..? I didn't know these words before, so this is just my stab at it :)
