Why Vampires Are Always Rich

My brother ended up in the hospital last night.  If you are inclined to pray, please include Steve.

As I was thinking about all of this last night, and thinking of the resulting medical bills, it occurred to me that vampires and other fictional characters who possess the gift immortality, or even just extended life, would not have medical expenses.

Usually in fiction, we assume that Vampires and other night creatures steal the wealth of their victims, and so they become wealthy over the course of millennia.  Of course that makes sense, but how much would they save by not having health problems?  Even without stealing or other kinds of "creative acquisition," this kind of character would be stronger financially simply by virtue of always being relatively healthy.

Not only would they not have to pay medical bills, but they wouldn't have to miss days of work due to sickness.  They wouldn't be slowed down by the aging process and so they could work equally hard after fifty or a hundred years, earning as much each day, if not more, during all of that time.

If this fictional character was not required by a need for secrecy to move around constantly, than over a normal life span, he or she could pay for their property.  Then during all of the years after, he or she would be able to live with limited financial expense.

Of course that wouldn't work for me.  I will always be spending any extra money I have on books.  But theoretically it would work.

So what do you think of my theory?  Makes sense?
