Is there anything more fun than a book fair? I think not!
Every book fair there are one or two books that grab my attention. This time...
The United Cakes of America
Definitely a healthy choice, right???
I knew it was part of my librarianish duties to test this book out before I could allow any copies to be sold, and so, I made the Coca-Cola cake with chocolate frosting:
YUM! Now I am faced with an even more difficult choice...should I buy the book? On the one hand, I can probably get all of the recipes on the Internet, and besides I don't usually make cake very often (it's not my favorite dessert though I do like cake in a bowl with lots of milk poured over it). On the other hand, it is nice to have one goto place for recipes, and enough of the recipes in the book look appealing to me that I would probably make more. (There is a 7up Pound Cake recipe that is calling my name.)
I love to buy cookbooks. Over the summer I bought Julia Child's first French cookbook. I made a cheese soufflee (in July, can you imagine!), Crème Pâtissière, and a few other things. Last book fair I bought a Cooking Light recipe book: 15 minutes, 5 ingredients...in fact, I may have posted about that too. And my most recent recipe book purchase was the new Weight Watchers cookbook, of which I've made three recipes. (There is a really yummy version of Huevos Rancheros!)
I get lots of recipes off of the internet though. And even when I have the cookbook, like Pioneer Woman, I still get any recipes from her off of her website. Cookbooks are good for browsing through and getting ideas, which is why I like the United Cakes book, lots of cool ideas. Enough though to warrant the purchase?
What about you? Are any of you collectors of cookbooks?
