books I'm enjoying

 I've taken over my sister's computer...Ha-ha-ha!!!

In one week, I should have enough money for a new computer, just one more week.  I can't wait!!!!  Course then I will probably have to wait if I want to get the computer to my own specs.  Still...One Week!!!

Over the weekend I read The King's Speech...a wonderful and interesting book to read.  Then tonight we went to see the movie.  I really enjoyed it!  Of course they took some liberties with the actual events, but still a great movie!  I love to pick out the actors and actresses in these movies.  I totally didn't recognize Jennifer Ehle, but I think I did recognize her mouth.  :-P

Then today my library got another interesting book, The Good, the Bad, and the Barbie.  It is a really interesting book.  I learned a lot about Barbie and the history of Mattel.  I wish that they had more color pictures throughout.  I was really impressed by the woman behind Barbie, Ruth Handler.  She was such a bold and determined woman!  Very cool.

Also over the weekend, I read Fat Cat by Robin Brande who wrote Evolution, Me, and Other Freaks of Nature.  Both are excellent books.  I like how Brande has her characters work through the steps of a problem.  I felt that Fat Cat was a little more didactic towards the end, but I don't know that teens will mind that.  With Fat Cat, I felt like the story, while not totally predictable, didn't have any huge surprises.  That said it was the kind of book that I enjoy reading because I enjoy the character's journey.  I loved the main character.  Very plucky and industrious, but not beyond the realm of possibility.  The supporting characters were great too, I especially liked her characterization of the best friend's boyfriend: halfway between clueless and long suffering--perfect!

So now you know how I've been spending my time away from a computer. :-)  I'm hoping for snow on Friday...more time to read!
