No More Downer Days!

Jan 15, 2010 20:14

Our family has had so many problems recently, more than ever before, and I wonder if we're sitting on even more that just haven't become apparent yet.  But, my problems are so nothing compared to what has happened in Haiti.  The pictures.  I just can't believe the tragedy that has happened there.  If you don't already know, the Red Cross has a number you can text with the word "Haiti" to donate $10 to help the victims of the earthquake.  The $10 will then be added to your next phone bill.

Ugh!  I'm So Tired of being Tired...Sick...Stressed...Worried....Anxious.....   But there are so many problems all around, and these problems and pain and tragedy just don't go away.  A quick glance on Facebook is enough to convince me that the whole world is Miserable!  Reading their status on top of my own downer feelings, ugh!  I'm so tired of being Down!

However, I know there are still good things happening out there.  So I'm going to focus on the good things in my life for a bit....

Good News:  Two days ago, my brother went to the hospital because of what turned out to be a near heart attack.  If he hadn't gone to the hospital, the doctors tell him, he would surely have had a major heart attack within a month.  The chest pain he had were a warning sign and didn't cause any damage to his heart.  Today, he was able to get a medical procedure that should keep him healthy for a long time to come.

Good News:  I'm surrounded by good people at work.  That's usually always one of the advantages of working in a school.  Teaching is such grueling work that most people only stay in the job because they really want to help people.  But in addition to that, I've been working on our school newsletter  this week, and I've been amazed by the number of good deeds being done!  Within the last couple of months there have been so many different efforts to help the community both by organizations within the school and individuals.  Just as an example: for a class assignment one of our math teachers challenged her students to propose a way that $100 could make a difference.  Her classes voted for their favorite, and put a hundred dollars to the job.  But in addition to that, one of her students decided that, even though her idea for helping the families of wounded soldiers wasn't picked, she would still carry out her project even raising that hundred dollars!  (I don't remember the address for the website she created, but email me and I'll send it to you next week.)  Is it any wonder that I'm inspired by these wonderful people?

Good News: It's Friday.  And I have the whole weekend in front of me.

Good News:  It's January which means all of the ice cream, including the high end stuff, is on sale for really cheap.

Good News:  I have lots of books to read, and even some time to read them.

Good News:  My bed is really soft and warm and the perfect place to dream.

Hmmmm....I'm still tired, but now that seems like a good thing.  Eight PM isn't too early to go to bed, is it?

Feel free to comment with more good news, and I'll edit this post to add them or do another post.  For now, I'm off to bed!  :-)  Have a great night!

ETA-->  More Good News:  I almost lost this whole post seconds before saving the entry because of the wonky battery in my laptop, but thanks to the wonderful LJ autosave feature, I didn't even lose a whole sentence!
