Most of us grew up believing that popcorn comes out of a bag that you put in the microwave. I don't have a microwave in my new apartment. Recently I've figured out that real popcorn is so stupidly easy to make that no one should ever have to eat that microwaved junk with fake butter and teflon. Seriously, it's way more expensive, really bad for you, and isn't nearly as much fun.
Here is how you are supposed to do it.
1) Get a big pot with a lid.
2) Put a little oil in the bottom, just a tablespoon or two.
3) Put in 3 kernels and turn on the heat (medium ish)
4) Wait for them to pop
5) Add another cup or so of popcorn
6) Shake the pot over the burner while they pop. This is extremely satisfying and fun to watch if you have a glass lid on your pot
7) Add butter/salt/whatever and eat it.
Is not being next to your stove for 5 minutes really that much of a time saver? Also if you don't feel like eating the entire bag alone (yuck) you can just make enough for yourself or however many people are with you. How the hell did POPCORN become a convenience food?
