I had a good day at the office today. Busy as ever, but we had a team meeting which went very well. My supervisor looked at workload (mine remains, actually I just gained some more after we have yet another burnout in the department), issues, changes etc. and we went away with action points and a good feeling.
I do have concerns regarding an even bigger workload, me going on vacation in two weeks and being assigned to a project, but at the moment it seems I'm the only person experienced enough to take that certain business over. I will shout, though, when things get too rough. I owe myself that.
What I am proud of is that I was able to articulate my concerns and issues our team currently faces in a calm, non-threatening way and had the feeling I was listened to and taken serious. The team itself is aligned and we share the same feelings and ideas and that came across as well according to me. The essence was - yet again - that it all boils down to communication. And we have a lot of people who either say nothing with plenty of words, or think they communicate (mumbling to oneself is not communicating) or simply don't communicate and rely on mind-reading. That training, I'm afraid, is again not on our development plan.
I gained a new nickname in the office today... Kersje. The Dutch translation of "little cherry". Comes partly from my name - Kerstin, and partly from the fact that my hair is coloured a cherry red. In addition I wore a lovely green top and a light brown blazer, fluffed the cherry locks up (who said having short hair doesn't give you styling options) and even wore a little make-up.
Oh, and I almost got run over by a car this morning at the zebra crossing in front of the office. Mr Big Mercedes simly ignored everyone already crossing the street - bad luck for him, I have his license plate number and will file a complaint against him. That would be the second within a week, I did the same thing back in Benrath on Saturday. Hm...twice in a short time...hm...
