Before I get to the musical fun: Oh frell, we're having a party tomorrow. Must clean.
Anyhow, Letters to Santa was great. I stayed the entire time, saw some friends from the VC era, and had great fun. My favorite moment was a throwaway skit about 90% into the 24 hours:
Person choosing the skit: We're gonna do a skit using the suggestions "Clouded judgment" and "college"
Two people walk on.
Performer 1: I got a degree in philosophy!
End scene.
On to the music: I won a $100 gift certificate to Reckless (a really good local record store, for the non-locals). They sell DVDs, but I hope to go light on those (unless they have awesome Criterion Collection selections on the cheap), and focus on music. (Also, I have around ten Criterion sets I've not watched since they were purchased.) The only ideas I have are an actual purchase of a CD I stole (Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga) and a purchase of some Weakerthans CD. Maybe the last Stephen Malkmus CD, also.
So... help? I like the indie rock, especially the pop-oriented indie rock. I also like a fair amount of classic rock type stuff (it's largely of the critically-acclaimed variety; more Velvet Underground, less Foghat). When it comes to Beatles or Stones, I choose the Kinks. My pre-teens were spent listening to R.E.M. and bands that influenced, were influenced by, toured with, or were talked about by R.E.M. My mid-to-late teens were spent listening mainly to albums released by Matador or Merge. My favorite album this year is probably LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver. My last.fm profile is
