Ms. L's Adventures in Archiveland.

Thank you, Gapers Block, for letting me know that the Reader Archives are currently free of charge to peruse. I'm currently going through Jonathan Rosenbaum's back catalog from 1987 on. Highlights of his writing include his takedown of Fatal Attraction and his positive review of  Tampopo (one of my faves from my high school years, but it's nice to know the cinematic context).

Some of the fun, though, is just  finding out about movies (mostly adaptations) I had no clue existed.
-Marilynn Robinson's Housekeeping was made into a movie featuring Christine Lahti?
-Bright Lights, Big City starring Michael J. Fox as the cokehead protagonist?
-I must have known about this at some point, but pushed it out of my mind, but: King Lear, directed by Jean-Luc Godard, With Peter Sellars, Burgess Meredith, Jean-Luc Godard, Molly Ringwald, Norman Mailer, Kate Miller, Leos Carax, and Woody Allen. Holy crap, that's amazing in concept, though probably not something I'm going to try to see.
