ARGH.

What a crappy day. Annoyed at work by a persisent mysterious problem suffered by Murdoch dialup users. It didn't help that the sole machine available for testing is a Mac. No offence, but OS9 isn't that amenable to diagnostics like packet sniffers, ping, etc.

Also, I hate the home built network quota software we use. Hate, hate, vomit. A prime example of bad software engineering. When I was handed responsibility for maintaining the system it was tied to a development version of the Linux kernel, on an unupdated Red Hate. I have a page where I've collected examples of the stupider pieces of C and Perl I found in the system. Whenever there's a problem I can never tell whether it's the fault of the software or not (usually it is).

Got a phone call at work from Linda, saying that Commodore Homes want to jack up the price of the house we're building by seven grand. When Linda gets home she'll dig up the bit of paper we signed that (we thought) fixed the price. Not happy, Jan.

Then on the way home I thought I'd stop off into town to look for birthday and christmas presents for my Sydney-resident brother, only to be foiled by city largely being shut by 6:15pm. So much for that idea. Both 78s and DaDas were shut. I gave up and went home. I didn't particularly want to go to the usual places. I might try my luck at Complex Records next time I try to shop in town. I haven't been there, but I do like the music played by a radio DJ that plugs the shop...

Mmm, Cadbury Turkish delight. Okay, I feel a bit better now.
