My sister, who never advocates for herself (or is just not good at it) had a really bad fat experience at (where else?) the doctor's office. I told my sister what to do (write a letter) but before she sends it to forward it to me so I can "medicalize" it. Of course, true to form, she did not.
I happen to know the medical director of this facility and called this morning to tell them I want to do a size sensitvity training. She was very excited about it and she wants me to not only do one there but also to do one at Grand Rounds (which is a giant training for ALL interns and residents) at the affiliated hospital.
For any of you in the medical field this is scary shit.
I have done one before which was at Callen-Lorde which is a GLBT health care center but that was several years ago and I do believe they may be a BIT more sensitive.
I'll keep you all posted but feel like I really NEED to do this again.
For those of you who don't know, I had done my thesis on The experiences of fat people seeking healthcare and the viablility of a size-friendly health care center -- this is just an extension of that thesis I suppose.
