my HP predictions . . .

ok, i am such a huge loser. all i can think about is harry potter and who the damn "half-blood prince" is. :)

i haven't gotten my books 4 and 5 back yet, but i am going to make a few predictions here anyway:

first of all, i think petunia dursley is . . . a squib. in fact, i am about 99.9% convinced of this fact. she knows too much about the wizarding world (i.e.: azkaban) and this role would definitely fit her. she resents the wizarding world because she was born into a (likely full-blooded) wizard family but she herself has no magical powers, and so she married a muggle and buried her past.

however if she's really a witch or something, it would make dudley the half-blood prince, and that would be hilarious. but i think that's pretty unlikely. :)

as to who the half-blood prince is . . . well, i know who it's not and that's about it. my most interesting theory is that JK rowling obviously thinks of tom riddle and lord voldemort as two different people, so even though the HBP is not voldemort or harry, it could be tom riddle. if tom riddle was still alive in some form. :) that wouldn't surprise me at all--it's just the kind of thing JK rowling would do. plus, in the "chamber of secrets" dobby makes a comment that makes me think long and hard about this theory:

"I've just got one question, Dobby," said Harry as Dobby pulled on Harry's sock with shaking hands. "You told me this all had nothing to do with He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, remember? Well--"

"It was a clue, sir," said Dobby, his eyes widening, as though this was obvious. "Was giving you a clue. The Dark Lord, before he changed his name, could be freely named, you see?"

so it would be just all-too-coincidental if JK rowling said "well, YES, i said it had nothing to do with voldemort--but i didn't say a thing about tom riddle!"

. . . ah, just a thought. she SAID the clue was in the chamber of secrets. maybe that's it. we know that tom riddle is a half-blooded wizard . . .

everyone thinks it's neville until they remember that his parents are in the hospital because they were wizards who fought against Voldemort and were driven insane by him. i think neville and harry are connected because the baby born in the prophecy could have only been harry or neville and for some reason voldemort went after harry . . . hmmmm. don't really know what that could mean yet.

this is also an interesting theory about neville that i found online:

"I think it is Neville Longbottom, even though it is said he is pure blood. In the first book it was said that his family thought he didn't have any magical powers, but in the end he still lot invited to Hogwarts. So maybe he is adopted with one parent magical and one not, leaving him half blood."

it's not a new character because this person played a part in the chamber of secrets . . . but after re-reading it, i still don't know.

this is also an interesting little tidbit i found online:

"ok, Im an extreme Harry Potter fan and when I found out what the title of the six book was, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I started making charts of all the half blood characters. So I have come to the conclusion that my best answer would probably have to be Hagrid. Its probably Hagrid because he is half blood, and his mother,(a giantess) could have been the queen of the giants, and that would make Hagrid Prince."

i like that it could be hagrid. that would be a very practical reason why dumbledore kept him around after he was expelled . . . however, i don't think there are any clues in the chamber of secrets that would suggest that it could be hagrid.

ah well, i gotta get ready for work.
