here is the stupid ad i saw:
QUALITY TATTOO WORK WITHOUT THAT B.S. PRICE - $1 (gulf shores/pensicola)
I AM A PRO TATTOO ARTIST AND JUST MOVED INTO THE AREA AND I AM LOOKING TO GET MY NAME OUT ,I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO DO SOME COVER UPS THAT PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN FROM SHOPS AROUND TOWN ,I WONT MENTION NAMES BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO GET A CUSTOM TATTOO OR A (COVER UP ) FROM SOMEONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING ,WITHOUT THE PRICE OF GOING TO A SHOP GIVE ME A CALL TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT ,,,,,THANKS ,,,,,DANGEROUS CURVES TATTOO INK 251-472-5620 I ALSO TRADE FOR ALL KINDS OF STUFF
my first question is... do you really want a tattoo from someone who can't spell pensacola???
and my second is... will he trade for crack??? because i think that is what he is on.
i don't know this person, i don't even really care who the heck he is except for the fact that he is going to mess it up for a lot of people if he continues to work like this. there is nothing "PRO" about this ad. in fact, more like "CON". as in CON ARTIST. :)
HERE IS THE DEAL
things to do when going to a tattoo shop:
1. think about your tattoo beforehand at least a little bit. where you want it, what size, color vs. black and gray. bring some references with you. this give the artist more direction.
2. look at portfolios. the more photos the better. you want to look for consistency, clean lines, good blends, and or a particular style that you like.
3. don't be afraid to ask questions. it's only forever. if you have concerns, you should ask.
4. be patient. and willing to change your design so it is "tattooable". rome wasn't built in a day. if you have a complicated tattoo or if you need to break it up in sessions, don't fret. if you want it done right, then you should be patient. you will have the rest of your life to spend with your tattoo. and you only get one shot at it.
5. the more tattoos you get, the better the price. if you are a repeat customer, usually an artist will hook you up the more you come back.
6. tips are always appreciated. like any other service, it doesn't hurt to tip to show appreciation.
7. ask friends. the more good things people have to say about a shop, the better. ask people that have tattoos where they get them and by who. if you like what is on their skin, then that is your best bet.
if you want a tattoo, it is a very important decision to consider. always always always go to a LICENSED tattoo shop. these people are trained professionally when it comes to making permanent markings on the body and to help control the spread of infectious diseases like hepatitis, AIDS, HIV, etc. by using disposable and properly sterilized equipment. would you go to walmart for a liver transplant??? would you go to mcdonald's for and eye exam??? i know that sounds silly, but that is pretty much like getting a tattoo from some stranger in a house or at some random tattoo party. it's like playing russian roulette.
this is a decision you will be living with until the day you die, please let a professional do it. i know prices can be steep, but you owe it to yourself to get the best for your money. the amount of training, the equipment and supplies needed, the amount of money that goes into a business mortgage, electricity, water, furthering education, the cost of licenses and the cost of an apprenticeship all factor into why tattoos are expensive. much like why a doctor or dentist is expensive. THE TATTOO WILL BE ON YOU FOREVER. do you think it would be wise for someone to hire some random person off the street to weld for a tall skyscraper? like for any other trade, wouldn't you want a trained professional?
i hope this helps you decide to go with a license trained professional tattoo artist. it will save you money in the long run and help the control of spreading infectious diseases. thanks so much for reading.
