I was lucky enough to go to the Joel Plaskett Emergency show this past wednesday in the quad at Dal, and when I say lucky, I mean that I didn't have to pay, proving that it pays to have friends who work security or are part of the student union. Needless to say, the show was fantastic. I was listening to the new CD "Ashtray Rock" for about a month before the show, but I wasn't a huge fan. After listening to them live though, I have to say, they won me over. I think they're great. Not only is the music fantastic, but they're great performers too. Joel's dancing is hilarious geeky. Pretty much everyone knows Plaskett's song "Nowhere with You", and if you don't, you should get on that, because it's one of those songs that never fails to cheer me up. The great thing about the Emergency is that most of their songs are about Halifax or Dartmouth (ie "Love this Town", "Ashtray Rock", "Nowhere with You" has the line "I took the Dartmouth ferry into the town") and they're always excited to play shows here, even though they're getting big elsewhere in Canada.

Anyways, if you're like me and you're always interested in widening your music horizons, check out The Joel Plaskett Emergency page at CBC's Radio 3 website or their own website.
