Last night I got so despondent about spending the evening reading that dissertation I ended up going out to buy a six-pack and rent Spiderman and Scotland, PA. The former movie because I haven't seen it and heard that it was pretty good, and the latter because I have wated to see it for a long time--it is an interpretation of MacBeth set in a Pennsylvania steel town. I watched Spiderman when I finished the first chapter, and I have to say that I enjoyed it. I liked how they didn't just try to make a cheesy action movie, but really caught some of the angst that surrounds growing up into a world dominated by science. I guess this could be argued, but I thought Toby M did a swell job of making Peter Parker's/Spiderman's moral dilemma seem plausable--he wasn't just some sort of superhero like the popular version of Spiderman. Though I claim no sort of special knowledge of comics, one thing I do know it is that Stan Lee's heroes, at least, have moral conflicts/secrets that they deal with in serving societies that hve an ambivalent relationship to them at best. Anyhow, I'll watch the other video tonight.
Well,back to work with me.
