* Well, I returned from spring break to realize that I'm a little overwhelmed with work. The extra class is really starting to take its toll on me. The extra 40 pages of Kant to read each week is just destroying any type of scedule I may have had. Arg.
** Have discovered why philosophy had been turning my stomach as of late: I don't give a rats ass about reason. Yes, that's right, I've said it.
*** I had the flu while I was home and ended up bed-ridden for about four days. What a waste of time. At least I got to watch a bunch of movies, though.
**** I'm falling in love with Kant. He's dreamy! Reading Heidegger and Merlea-Ponty, all I keep on seeing is him rearing his (allegedly) ugly little head in their writings. The Third Critique is everywhere!!!! No really, though, it is.
***** On another note, does anyone know any good Kant stories? He was such a character! As many of you probably know, he never went more than maybe 30 miles outside of the town he was born in. One time, he decided to go on a "cruise" accross the bay that Konigsberg is situated upon in order to go on a longer voyage to Denmark; his first real trip. Apparently, half-way across the bay Kant became violently sea-sick, forcing him to cancel his trip and affirming his desire to stay within the city forever.
**** So I can't read French for beans, and yet when I'm reading Merleau-Ponty's L'oeil et L'esprit almost every word is understandable. I guess I've internalized the text so much that I can read it in foreign languages. Weird, very weird.
*** I've been reading Jose's Saramago's The Cave. I have to say that I'm enjoying it a great deal. It's about a potter who is contractually obliged to only sell his goods to "the Center." The Center, one day, cancels their order... what's a fellow to do? I'm only about a third of the way through, but the story-telling is very engaging.
** I received my Republic mid-term back today. I sucked. First of all the question was "explain Plato's doctrine of the tripartite division of the soul," a task easily completed in two pages. There was, however, a nine page minimum to the response. I was pulling stuff out from under rocks in trying to fill the page requirements as secondary sources were forbidden. We can re-write, but I don't think I care to.
* Here's a picture of one of my new favorite paintings: John Singer Sargent's Orchestra Rehearsal at the Cirque d'Hiver.
