So I started running again tonight. It's been nearly 2 years since I ran last. I've always said that I hate running...but I love the way I feel afterward. Tonight is no exception! I'm using the
"Couch to 5K" running plan, which can turn a couch potato into a distance runner. One of my unspoken (thus far, anyway) goals in this whole weight loss thing is to run the McGuires 5K next year. I don't want to WIN - I just want to finish. And then drink. A lot. But that's only if I finish. :)
I used this plan before with great success. I used a stopwatch then, and it was difficult. I'm the kind of person that would rather have someone tell me when to start and stop than monitor it...so this time I stole TX Jen's idea and made my iPod do the work for me. I checked my iTunes for 30 second tunes and 90 second tunes and made a playlist. 30 second tunes are hard to come by...I have a boatload of 30 second Stravinsky pieces, interestingly enough, but they're not really running material.
My playlist went something like this:
30 second ringtone sample of the theme to "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends"
"Why Must I be a Teenager in Love" by Less Than Jake
"Lake Titicaca" by the Animaniacs
"F.U.N. Song" from Spongebob
"I'm not Wearing Underwear Today" from Avenue Q
The first address from the balcony of the Casa Rosada from Evita
The opening titles from Jurassic Park
The theme from Pinky and the Brain
Etc.
It made for a very entertaining run/walk, I'll tell you that. I showered and started laundry, now I'm laid out in bed feeling pretty impressed with myself. I didn't have any problems with my asthma, I didn't get a stitch, I didn't wimp out... I guess I'm used to running for longer times, because I was surprised by how fast the 30 seconds went each time.
I'm pretty impressed with myself. I just hope I don't regret this tomorrow. :)
