This place is too quiet. Peace does not exist here, but it is too...calm.

I think I will change that.

[itty bitty pause.]

Also, I would like to read some poetry. I will consider your recommendations.

I waited too long; my time has run out. Hayley left before I could apologize.

I am sorry, Loki.

Goddess, I love it when you talk like that.

I am infinitely patient.

The language of violence is my natural tongue.

I am enjoying this. It is much better than behaving.

It suits you perfectly.

It is much better than behaving. Especially with a warden like yours, I'm assuming?

Thank you!

I behave for her, and then she leaves for six months. Six months! I tire of 'being good'.

Six months? Why not just stay away entirely?

Why not leave and never return? She says she came back for me. She says she never forgot me.

How did she cope? It must have been hard being there for half a year, living in her home, in her real life and just thinking that one day, she might return to her dear, dear inmate.

Yes, very difficult for her. She had to return to me and return to the Barge.

Any warden could do this. They could go home and live their lives, then return when they like. Return when it suits them. They could be away for years, then return, then leave again. What keeps them here for inmates?

What keeps them here? Whatever deal they make with the Admiral, of course.

We are simply a passing thought to them, no matter what they say.

And if they have graduated inmates before....

Martha has graduated two inmates. She has gotten her deal.

Pity, then. Or pride.

Pity disguised as sympathy. Empathy.

Which is unacceptable for someone of your power. You don't deserve that, do you? You don't deserve to have her treat you like you're some kind of pet project, do you?

The situation is unacceptable. I am not her project any more. She is married now. Her husband is her project.

Of course he is. That is the way of married people.

But no one says you should be her project. Why would you subject yourself to that when she clearly has other priorities? And when she is lying to you about them?

I am not subjecting myself to anything. Not anymore. Why do you think I am playing this game with you?
