[Did you miss her, Barge? I bet you missed her. She missed you! sorta]

I have been thinking. I should not be surprised the Doctor left. The Doctor and his kind always leave.

[She scoffs, but those who know her can tell her heart's not in it. She pauses, collecting herself, then begins to laugh.]

I am honoured.

You sound as if you are feeling better.

[This is...a very separate concept from 'I think you are feeling better' as far as D's concerned]

I am tired of mourning. If I pretend I am better, if I fake wellness, then I will be well.

An interesting theory, certainly. But I can understand your decision; an eternity spent mourning on a loss too great to mourn is an eternity wasted.

How goes it with the...newer doctor?

[Just a tiiiny level of distaste creeping in there. Time Lords? Fine, whatevs. Actual medical science? He hates it all so very, very much.]

Energy wasted too. It tires me, this sadness.

[Your distaste, D. It intrigues her.] She sees me often. I don't want to harm her; that works in her favor.

I can only imagine. I recall her from my previous time here...she seemed to me rather idealistic for someone who spends her days dealing with the sickness and violence humans inflict upon one another.

[He includes sickness like it's their fault because epidemic disease wasn't really a thing until humans insisted on levelling the landscape to live in high densities. Those douchebags.]

She has told me she does not hate. I wonder how this can be. Everyone hates. Gods, divinities, mortals all have the capacity to hate.

[Apparently yourself included there, D.] Is it a fault of hers? Idealism?

[He's also scared of needles. :c]

A fault? No. A flaw, perhaps, insofar only as idealists are more vulnerable than anyone else to having their hopes dashed. No human is more destructive than after they have seen reality fail to live up to their ambitions for it.

Do you think she could be so destructive? I do not see it myself.

When my people had mortal bodies, they were massacred in a rage by the very same people who had revered us as gods only weeks before.

I think all people are capable of all things. It is only a matter of what it will take to drive them to it.

[Meep. Sounds a little like her brothers. :|]

I would be convinced if mortals had done the same to my people. We were responsible for our own massacres. The Barge is the only place I have encountered mortals; I came before they did.

They are no so different than divinities. I think they are simpler. I do not see Martha being driven to bring destruction, but I do not really know.

If she thinks she does not hate, then she has never experienced hatred. Hatred can be tempered, or channelled, or mindlessly indulged; one cannot choose to simply not experience it.

This is possible. It is not something to control.

And if she ever suggests that your needs are best served by simply not feeling those things which led to your coming here, you will know that her assignment to you is indeed a lost cause.

[Long, long pause.]

I will. It would be impossible to not feel them.

Nor should you attempt to try.
