Indeed, another job secured, sub pay but daily work im assured. Thank the bearded gods. If I can make the boat float without tapping into reserves within 6 weeks, this plan has worked. Winters grip is stronger up here, snow on the ground but warm air is on its way. Stressed and peaceful at the same time, the hills remind me that Im just a small entity amongst much larger and permanent things. It amazes me how the locals do not live in a state of ecstacy with so much natural bounty around them. The winters can be cold, single digits and below really limit the options outdoors. Once the sun sets, locals act as if there were vampires about, unable to enter a person's home without permission.
Meg and I can finally live like humans again, with functional bathing facilities and privacy, an actual home without prying eyes and endless personal invasion. The last 18 months had been a battle between completion of graduate school while simultaineously retarding our living standards from that of semi independant young adults to teens under the roof of a mindful yenta. I almost forgot what life beyond that test was, and even now in my new found freedom, I feel barely aware of what we have actually accomplished. Come spring the snow will melt, the streams and creeks will swell up, and we can begin work on that piece of the earth we call home. This summer its all about creating permanent access to the property, restoring the berm drain ditch, and starting the garden with a pumpkin patch to usher in autumn.
