It was pretty rough-going for a demon fresh out of the pit these days. Not only were there the hunters to worry about, but Ruby turning her back on Lilith? Well, hadn't worked out to be all peaches and cream for her, to say the least. She certainly wasn't getting any free drinks at the demon bars for it. It was enough to make a girl avoid Sunnydale entirely.
But, there was really only so much a demon could do when waiting for the perfect moment to sweep in and save the Winchester in distress, and eventually, it came to trying to dial up old friends.
Very old.
Crossroads were harder to find these days, of course, but New Mexico had done an all right job of providing and, really, was there any better place for a demon in Witness Protection to show up? Besides, it hadn't been for Ruby playing mentor, the moron wouldn't have managed to put his ritual box together right and the crossroads summoning wouldn't have even worked.
But, it did, and Ruby made sure to wait off in the shadows and let the deal proceed all standard-like until she decided an interruption was absolutely necessary. Which, well, was around the same time the guy in question was getting ready to part with that immortal soul of his. She wandered over, straight past that poor, unfortunate soul and right up to Balthazar, taking a half turn around him as she wandered in a semi-circle to get the full tour.
"No rest for the wicked, huh?" She sauntered in a circle around him. "Gotta say, Balthazar, you look …" A thoughtful cock of her head, expression altogether very smugly tongue-in-cheek. "Well. Guess we can't all pick sorority girls to ride around, right?"
