Spot fires made it as far as Doreen so quite close to my parents place in Yarrambat but thankfully stopped short. They were ready with buckets of water everywhere and the extra driveways put in after the last bushfire there in 1980 make their house easy to defend by CFA trucks.
However I went to highschool in Hurstbridge and knew lots of people who lived up towards Kinglake, I hope their families got out ok, especially some that lived near the Kinglake end of Ninks road (a long, narrow, rough dirt track that runs parallel to the St. Andrews - Kinglake road but deadends near Kinglake).
In further news there was going to be a general strike by Telstra workers tomorrow (in support of EBA issues) but it's been postponed due to the fires so that means I have to go to work.
Today I visited some friends and dropped in at the St. Kilda Festival to see The Angels on the way back. The Angels were excellent despite their age and infirmity (one had only recently received heart surgery!) however I would have put "Am I ever going to see your face again" at the end instead of in the middle as it was clearly the climax of the set. Also they didn't play "Mr Damage". The worst thing though was a part of the (younger portion of) the audience... waving a inflatable mattress around near the front means NO ONE ELSE CAN SEE THE BAND... dickheads.
