Character's Canon Abilities:
Main Ability: The ability that allows Souji to have a Persona (stated below) is that he is able to enter TVs.
Persona: A persona is a tamed manifestation of a person’s most negative personality traits and/or emotions. The persona comes from facing and accepting these negative/undesirable traits and/or emotions. It lives within the user and can be summoned at will by using its respective tarot card. Souji’s Persona is Izanagi, named after a Japanese deity. Izanagi is currently at level 52 and is resistant to electricity, weak to wind, and blocks dark attacks. His moveset includes:
Ziodyne: Inflicts a large amount of Electrical damage on one enemy. Costs 12% of Souji’s spiritual energy
Diarama: Recovers a moderate amount of HP to one ally. Costs 6% of Souji’s spiritual energy
Tetrakarn: Repels a single Physical attack for one ally. Costs 36% of Souji’s spiritual energy

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
Souji’s parents had jobs that required them to move a lot, once a year usually. However, this time, in 2011, his parents need to go overseas. In order for him to continue his schooling, they send him to a quaint little town in the countryside called Inaba. There, he stays with his uncle on his mother’s side and his 7-year-old cousin.

Character Personality:
At first glance, Souji appears to be the perfect guy. He’s good-looking, intelligent, a great listener, organized, helpful…But there is more to him than meets the eye. If you watch a conversation between him and anyone else though, you will notice something interesting eventually. Souji will say almost nothing while the other person talks at him for the most part. He will speak now and then, usually to offer advice or his objective thoughts on the matter they are discussing. He does not want to talk too much because that would actually bring attention to him. Even though he’s well known and popular, he doesn’t have many friends usually. His parents both have jobs that require a lot of moving around. Because of this, Souji never had the chance to stick around in one place long enough to become good friends with anyone. When he was around 8 years old or so, he finally just decided it was a lot easier to not become close to anyone. That way, when he had to move, he didn’t have to be too upset about leaving.
Souji didn’t just shut people out completely though. He is naturally social, but forces himself not to express it normally. Instead of making friends now, he helps people by listening to them talk about their problems and then offering his advice. Using this tactic, he is allowed to have relationships without becoming so involved with the other person that he forms a close bond with them. By letting people talk about their problems, they become so consumed in what they are saying or telling Souji that he is essentially forgotten about and is not forced to talk about himself.
Another reason for his willingness to listen to other people is that it makes him feel useful. He wants to feel like he is making a difference in another person’s life. Likely because of the fact that his parents weren’t around for him as much as he would have liked for advice and comfort, he wants to be the person that other people come to for such things. The fact that he wants to feel useful may also be why he has multiple part-time jobs, ranging from a hospital janitor to a translator.
Souji is very intelligent. He has the brains to become top of the class, but sometimes his myriad of part-time jobs and clubs eats up a lot of his study time. On top of that, Souji’s escapades into the TV with the Investigation Team kills his motivation to study. Despite all of that, he usually has one of the top 10 exam scores in the class. Not only that but whenever Yosuke is called on in class to answer a question and he happens to not be paying attention, Souji will hiss the correct answer to him, and to Chie as well.
He is also fairly gifted athletically and musically. He has played soccer before but chose to join the basketball team instead. He quickly became a valuable asset to the team. Souji joined the music club and plays the trumpet as well. He enjoys these activities because he is surrounded by people with a common interest, and yet he does not have to talk about himself or get too personal about anything, since they can focus on their activity.
Souji does not like to display his emotions. He feels that they make him easy to read and he doesn’t want people to know if he is feeling something negative. He has the need to be a leader, for someone to look to for help and advice, and if he displays his emotions, he believes it will show him to be weak and incapable of helping others manage their problems. He also believes that showing emotions would lead him to be biased when it comes to looking objectively at a situation. This is especially true when he and the rest of the Investigation Team are inside the TV. Even if he’s unsure of what exactly to do, he remains calm as they talk out the situation at hand just to make sure the others don’t panic and stay calm as well. Because he is even-headed as such, the rest of the Investigation Team unanimously nominated him as their leader.
Souji is glad that he has never had to face his Shadow, especially in front of other people. This makes him feel guilty about having seen the Shadows of every other member of the Investigation Team. Further, Yosuke once commented that he “must not have anything to hide” since he never saw his Shadow before he received the Persona ability, and that that must be part of what “draws people” to him according to Chie. He has slowly started to open up to the Investigation Team. He trusts them more than he usually does other people, since it’s very hard to not do such a thing when they all shared a secret of the magnitude of the TV world. There’s a small part of him that believes he must trust them just to make up for the fact that he knows their secrets. Almost as though the least he can do is trust them. That is not the only reason he trusts them though. It would be very difficult to be in the TV world where they risk their lives almost daily and work together if he didn’t trust them. If anyone wants to make their own decisions while fighting Shadows, he lets them, but will give orders to them if wanted or needed.
While in battle, he does his best to protect everyone because he feels that’s his job as their nominated leader. He hates when any other members of the Investigation Team take hits for him and he does his best to make up for it through healing them and using items. He has a laser-like focus on battles so that everyone comes out as unscathed as possible.
He is excellent at explaining things to others, especially to Nanako, his 7-year-old cousin, and Teddie, who is not experienced with the human world at all. They frequently ask him questions and he does his best to explain things as simply as possible. Also, if anyone from the Investigation Team doesn’t understand exactly what is going on with the case, Souji will re-state the line of thinking in a more understandable way. When talking to a stranger, he is usually polite, as this creates a sort of barrier between him and the other person before anything else can be said, calling back to his reluctance to get close to other people. However, he has dropped this habit around the Investigation Team and his uncle and cousin. When he speaks to the Investigation Team, the others take everything he says very seriously, even if it does not agree with what everyone else wants to do, especially when he says it’s time to call it quits from the TV world for the day. When he wants to, he can be very motivational when he speaks, encouraging the others not to give up when the case seems to have reached a dead end, and yet being very down-to-earth with his assessments. In other words, he says something only when he can 100% believe in it.
He is especially open with Nanako, who is left by herself a lot due to her father’s job. He frequently keeps her company in the evening and talks to her about various things, often initiating the conversation, which is different than when he’s with other people. He is an only child and probably enjoys having something of a sibling around (considering she calls him her “Big Bro”). However, he also is happy that he can act almost as a parental figure that she is comfortable talking to since her father isn’t home as much as she would like. He sees a lot of his own family situation in her: forced to take on adult responsibilities, fend for herself most of the time and not have anyone around to talk to. He would like to not see her obtain the same kind of social skills that he has by fostering her emotional growth through letting her vent her frustrations with her father to him.
Overall, Souji appears to be a normal, if not a bit quiet, person that gets along well with others and always seems to have the right thing to say. He is friendly and for those that manage to become close to him (compared to most other people), he will do his best to meet their expectations in the relationship.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Souji will want to continue schooling, as well as get a few part-time jobs. He will be hesitant to ally himself with either SERO or AGI because he does not agree with the things either company does.
