We're back from New York! We had a wonderful time, despite landing in the middle of the fucking snowstorm last Saturday night at Newark airport and having to wait in the fucking plane for over an hour to get a parking position. And then finding out our shuttle to NY didn't leave until another hour and a half (or possibly more) because of the snow. It was fucking 11.45 p.m. at this point, which also means like 6.a.m in our time. We caught the most horrific cab ride with a couple of New Yorkers - the cab driver was a complete asshole and we kind of had to fight with him so he would let us out at two stops on the upper west side (only 10 blocks or so apart, mind).
Our hotel was okay - there was Starbucks in the house so we had Starbucks coffee + oatmeal for breakfast almost every morning. We even woke to the smell of freshly ground and brewed coffee (shared ventilation shaft running by our room ;-)). We saw a lot of things - just walked an awful lot of the time through most of the areas, Time Square, Flatiron District, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Soho, Tribeca, Lower Manhattan, etc... We were at the Village Halloween Parade. We had awesome food (very touristy and very American, Burgers at ShakeShack in Madison Square Park, hotdogs at Gray's Papaya, soul food in Harlem) and some less awesome food (at the airport, in a rather expensive place near the opera). We took the Staten Island Ferry to glance at Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge, we walked around Battery Park and up to Pier 17, we passed by Occupy WallStreet, we crossed the Central Park four times, we were at the Guggenheim, the Met and the Museum of Natural History (where we were reminded that Dinosaurs are great fun no matter what's your age!). We went to Forbidden Planet (where they had no tote bag for me!!! *whine*) AND two Midtown Comic stores. We trolled through bookstores and then bought stuff at Century 21.
And now my fucking suitcase is missing and I'm worried, because all my favorite clothes are in there! Keep your fingers crossed for them to find it!
Yeah, that was it in short.
Maybe more when I'm a bit more energetic.
