Funny story I remembered today while browsing the intertubes, and I thought I'd share it, but before I do that...

THIS ENTRY CONTAINS FINAL FANTASY VII SPOILERS!

Though you probably know it already, maybe someone doesn't, I don't know. )

What age were you when this happened? And how old was the teacher? This sounds like another case of an elder rejecting a new medium just because it doesn't fit their traditional standards. About 40 to 60 years ago, this teacher probably would have been trash talking TV and Movies as a medium, saying literature is the only way to express an emotion or rational thought, and the belief that there will never be a well written or complicated television program or movie.

In another 30 years, there will probably be a new breakthrough medium our generation will stupidly debase for no reason. Let's vow to not do that.

I was 13, teacher was in her 60s.

Probably would've helped if I'd had one of the many, many gamer teachers I had in high school. My English teacher in 12th grade actually didn't come to class one day because he stayed up all night playing Halo 3.

*nod* I will. The new media is bound to be badass.

Yeah, that means the teacher was likely born in the 40s? Yeah.

Last year I had an awesome teacher for an awesome English class who made us read Lysistrata and had a daughter who enjoys Anime. She also let me do a presentation on George Carlin and show his works in class. I refer specifically to his "Sometimes rape can be funny" routine.

Can any of your teachers beat that?

But... On the flipside, I had a blatantly mean teacher who played favorites for girls and assigned pointless busywork in 5th grade. She is solely responsible for making me dislike school, and didn't teach a damn thing outside of Math, which I don't care about anyway...
