The Purple Hotel On the Radio!
Just heard on the radio program Re:Sound, a piece on the Purple Hotel, originally known as The Purple Hyatt, in Lincolnwood, Illinois.
There was a sign on the parking lot last May advertising the building for auction, and I had always assumed that no one had bought it, and assumed from that that it would be torn down some time1.
It turns out a) there's a bit more history to it that I didn't know, and b) actually it was bought last year by someone who wants to restore it.
I stayed there maybe three or four times in the late eighties, and had always liked it, although I'm sure its decline had begun by then.
