The Holiday of Reflection

One of the reasons I love Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is for its call for reflection. I consider myself a reflective person, but lately I have not been in a reflective mood. So I am happy for this reminder to take the time to look at my life, particularly in the last year, and consider how I would like to move forward from here ( Read more... )

Dear Ellie, I really liked this reflective and introspective entry. I think overall I agree with your philosophy on life (at least as much as you discussed it here). It's exciting and scary to be at a place now where there are so many new things that we have to figure out, but every once in a while something happens that reminds me of the important things that have remained unchanged. This morning my mom said she was reminded of "old times" last night, going to bed and hearing us girls talking and laughing downstairs. A friendship like ours is very important to me, and I'm glad it's been constant, despite our many changes.

I'm also happy for you in your new job, doing something you love. You seem pretty excited about it, which is good, because it sounds like you'll need a lot of energy for it! Creativity and art are definitely necessary for one's sanity, but sometimes you have to find new ways of being creative when you're no longer 10 and taking art classes.

As for forgiveness... I think that's a tricky thing for anyone to master. Of course we'd all like to do things right the first time, and I think you're pretty good at it; but being humans, sometimes we screw things up. And I think that's alright, as long as you try to set it right and learn from it. But sometimes that is difficult to do.

Anyway... I hope you enjoyed my mildly-reflective and long-winded response to your similar entry (:

I appreciate your equally reflective (long-winded?) response... this stuff really seems to be on my mind a lot lately. But I like thinking about it, so that's good with me.

It's definitely nice to be able to come home and have you guys around. It really makes a huge difference.

Oh, and I'll always be 10 and taking art classes, I don't know what you're talking about. Want to join me?? It could REALLY be like old times. I think when I ever buy a place, I'll have one white wall just for doodling/writing notes. Such a thing is a necessity.
