To have loved and lost.

How amazing is ''A Single Man''. Seriously. Movie has so much memory and grief in it, conveyed under layers of grace and tasteful direction, that I absolutely have to jump on livejournal and write about it.

I am floored. I have no words. The cinematography, art direction and the acting are exquisitely brilliant. Any film which can make me bawl in the first 10 minutes with barely any dialogue, but amazing, drop of the hat, heart-achingly wonderful acting coming purely from the face and the eyes definitely gets a green light on my list of rewatch.

I love it. It is not your conventional gay-themed movie. I'm relieved it didn't turn out that way, though I admit I was a tad cockblocked. But it's universal that all great artsy gay films deserving of an Oscar ALWAYS gives you cockblock. You wouldn't care, not much, because there is a greater story at hand that is worth playing out without the frills.

You know it's like you come out watching Donnie Darko and you're too stumped to say anything other than "brilliant, amazing, but I can't really explain what is it about" kind of feeling? Yep, so I will now shut up and share the gorgeousness of this movie.

Don't get me started how sad I am over not being able to find HQ screencaptures. Boy is so gorgeous I can't even fathom. WHERE ARE YOU, HQ GLORY?

Now for the better, official synopsis :

The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.

I love everything. I love George and Jim's fairytale relationship. I would move heaven and earth to get anything quite as magical as that. I love George and Charley's dependent, undying, unrequited friendship/platonic love which kind of resonated with me because I find myself clinging on to the "could have beens" even though I know the past could never return. I love the message and the awesome quotes this movie has. I love how George and Kenny had so much inappropriate UST going on and I'm GLAAAD the story didn't go into that direction. Would've killed it. The only thing I didn't like was - the ending.  Oh yay, there goes another one. Damn you GLBT cinema, damn you. Another unnecessary move on your part. I sure hope the Oscar nomination paid off, though.
