X-Play's Top 10 Scariest Games of All Time.
I've already played a couple, and possibly dispute F.E.A.R topping Alone in the Dark, but the dated graphics make direct comparison fairly irrelevant. I played Alone in the Dark back in 1992, and it served as my introduction to the Cthulhu mythos. The post Ringu style of F.E.A.R is more theatrical and linear, and I feel doesn't frighten you so much as take you on fairly bland roller-coaster ride.
Siren was scary enough to make me uncomfortable playing it. I may go back and have another go at it. :-P
Interesting that Silent Hill 2 came out on top. I really must get around to finishing the original, and moving my way through the series (shortening my lifespan a little in the process). I've only played Silent Hill 4: The Room all the way through.
