Wednesday morning update.
Had a meeting with my Comparative Politics of South Asia professor yesterday afternoon. She didn't seem to think I was in danger of failing, but she also reiterated that I wasn't doing fantastically well. Told me if I showed drastic improvement on my final paper (due tomorrow) and asked our guest speaker lots of questions in class tomorrow that she would take everything into consideration to calculate my grade. All of my fingers and toes are crossed that I do well.
Virus problem prevented my internet from working and disabled my Norton Anti-Virus software. Called Dell support, told me that viral problems weren't covered under my warranty and it would be $279 to fix. Called my dad who told me my computer wasn't even worth it. Called Symmantic and they said they could fix it for $59. Dad said that would be ok. 4 hours and 30 minutes later, Symmantic fixed everything and installed new software and all this updated stuff. My lappy has been working like a charm for the last 12 hours, so I'm hoping I won't have another problem like this before graduation (because my graduation present will most likely be a new laptop. I've decided I'm getting a Mac next).
My mom and I are big believers in that whole "everything happens for a reason and you just have to find the lesson in everything" business. My computer crashing in the midst of Finals Week had me running frantically to the library to work on my stuff. I'm a senior, and I've NEVER used the library computer lab to actually do work. I check out books and come here to read in between classes and to check my e-mail, but not to actually do work. I was at the library computer lab all day yesterday, and I got SO MUCH done, it was ridiculous. Couldn't let YouTube videos distract me. Couldn't go talk to Liz when I got bored. Couldn't watch TV or answer my phone. Nothing. Just me and a computer in a silent lab.
So that is my lesson. Productivity comes from the library. Simple, but for my entire college career I convinced myself that I needed background noise (like music) to function and get my work done. Nope. Sitting in an uncomfortable, quiet library just makes me want to work harder and faster to get out of there. So now, even though my laptop is just fine, I'll be writing my papers at Bobst this week. That's where I am now, LL2, using a beautiful Mac desktop with a big screen.
Home in 3 days.
