December chills

First snow of the season.

Gazed out the 8th floor window of the Times Square Marriott Marquis hotel to watch the snow fall on the tourists below. Many of them were standing atop the new TKTS structure - a long red staircase on one side and a discount ticket booth on the other. They looked so happy to be experiencing snowfall in Manhattan.

I don't blame them. Snow really is beautiful before the city corrupts it with pollution.

I did not enjoy walking to and from the subway in a 1960s inspired black cocktail dress and 4.5 inch heels, black eyeliner dripping down my cheeks due to the cold making my eyes water, red gloss frozen to my lips... although a man on my block in Brooklyn stopped me and said that the snowflakes looked lovely in my hair. At least I had that going for me at 1am where I had a hot date planned with my laptop.

On this day, exactly one year ago, I was stepping off a plane in Los Angeles to celebrate Colleen's birthday and go to the Spice Girls concert. I had left snowy New York for a weekend of 70 degree weather, sunshine, and palm trees.

Wow.

A lot has happened since last year.

Which has nothing to do with the first snow of the season.

So I'm going to stop writing now.

Maybe work on my South Asian politics paper that determines if I pass or fail the class.

My bed looks much more inviting. Maybe I'll sleep.

But if I sleep and don't work on my paper, I might fail.

Sigh.
