If you asked me in middle school if I would consider going Greek once I got to college, I would have responded with rolled eyes and a big "eff you."
If you asked me in high school if I would consider going Greek once I got to college, I would have responded with "Get plastered and attend mixers with themes like CEOs and office hos? No, thanks."
If you asked me during my freshman year at NYU if I would consider going Greek, I would have responded with "No, I have friends and a good social community here. I'm good."
If you asked me during my sophomore year at NYU if I would consider going Greek, I would have responded with "Actually, I'm rushing in the spring because my so-called friends from freshman year have moved on and I'm feeling the isolation of being on a non campus."
If you asked me during my junior year at NYU if I would consider going Greek, I would have responded with "NO. I tried it, the existing groups are not for me. I'll make my OWN community."
I am now one of the official colonizing members of the national Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Technically, I'm in pledge status, but we all are since we're starting the chapter at NYU.
Strange though it may be, I'm a proud Pi Phi and love my new sisters.
The older versions of me would be ashamed or maybe even disgusted, but the older versions of me still have a lot of learning and growing up to do.
