Dropped S off at the bus stop this morning as usual. He'd mentioned a kitty that had been showing up for a few days.
And then this little, delicate gray-furred beastie appears out of nowhere, immediately rubs up against his legs, mewls for food, and then trots across the road...
...into a construction zone, where she drinks out of some strange greasy puddles and almost gets run over by a truck.
Not wanting to pick up someones pet, especially for the "strange person attacking me and screaming angry French I can't understand" or "calling the police" angles on things, I drove back home, enraged...
...trying not to think of the statistics.
...trying to be "sensible".
...trying not to go on a door-to-door face-punching campaign over anyone who would let a young (and most likely unspayed) cat go loose between a busy highway and construction zone. No collar, no clue, she didn't even try to dodge traffic and went up to anybody...
Seriously considering taking the carrier with me tomorrow morning and picking her up (the whole place would be too busy today, hence above paragraph and language barrier), keeping her at home until we find and potentially strangle the owners, or we find her a smarter home to live in. But part of me feels I'm "over-reacting", when I've seen this a million times.
I hate that this sort of thing ruins my whole day when I -know- the people that bought and "love" her never gave it a second thought.
Edit: It's pouring rain, but I took the cat carrier and some food back just in case. Got stared at by the construction workers as I looked under a bunch of parked cars, but no sign. Going to go back when things dry up a bit.
