I've watched what's been going on with Katrina for the past couple of weeks, and you know what, I'm now just understanding. Today, with Ophelia coming closer UNCW shut down and we were told to evacuate, the storm's headed right for us. As I started to pack, I realized I could only bring so much. In ten minutes I had to list what were the most important things to me from those that, if destroyed, could be replaced. I had enough time to through what clothes I could, my computer, MP3 player, and Puppy (my first stuffed animal) all into a duffel. This experience also gave me the answers as to why so many people didn't evacuate for Katrina, it was simple...they couldn't. The traffic was so horrible by the time I left I can't even describe it, it took me four hours to get to Raleigh when it should have been less then two. Now, imagine if you had a storm that was about to hit you and you were still on the road, your only true option would be to pull over where you were at (even if you were still in town) and pray. I'm not saying that there weren't a lot of people who just didn't try, but I can't help but think of those that did and still didn't make it. It's suppose to hit us on Wednesday, and all I can do is hope that when I get back everything will be okay.
