I agree with you 100% on this. I found an injured golden finch last winter, and yes, it was adorable as all hellomg, but I'm not qualified to care for an injured animal like that! So I took it to a rehab place. Where it can actually get taken care of. And won't sit there get stared at by me, who knows nothing about birds.
People just get carried away thinking they're doing the right thing, and then end up hurting the animal. I actually JUST read a post on my flist that recounted a story of the poster finding an "abandoned" (and who really knows about that? we don't, and i'm sure she didn't) duckling, and it broke its neck during careless transportation. And it sucks because people do this stuff with all of the best intentions at heart, but they do so much more damage than good. It's just sad. There needs to be more education about it. And when people find these animals, they'd better do their darndest to find a rehab center that they can take them to instead of blindly believing that they themselves are the only option for the animal's survival.
I read that exact same post, and it was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back, you know? I felt so bad for that little guy :C You're freaking awesome, and that was insanely great judgment on your part to take that little finch in :D I had to take a couple little cardinals that I found under my deck in a few weeks ago, and DAMN they were adorable!
AHH cardinals!!! Socuuute. I have a girl on my flist who has her rehab license in Arizona (and a camel, haha!) and she does a lot of pigeons and hawks, and posts pictures! She's really neat.
She has a camel?! That is insanely cool D: I bet the camel really digs it down in Arizona too. It's like home, but with cacti! That person sounds awesome :D
