Hamilton Island, Queensland.
White sands, azure waters and the reef; this place is truely beautiful. I think you'd have a difficult time trying to find someone who could so easily dismiss it.
We've almost been on holidays for a week now and only in the last twenty four hours i've begun to feel tired and a little water logged. I'll go over the past four days.
At around midday on Monday we arrived at HI and straight away as we stepped off the plane and onto the tarmac you could feel we had arrived in a new state. It was so humid! We wasted no time jumping into our swimmers and the villa's pool. We avoided the main hotels and instead rented out a couple's holiday villa on the otherside of the island. The Villa is perched on a steep, stoney cliff above a channel of water which runs between the HI and a less inhabited island. I am looking out over this channel as i type.
The rest of Monday we spent exploring the island by Buggy (a metallic green golf buggy which is the most popular mode of transport on the island)and checking out the village for shopping, dinner and afternoon tea.
Tuesday we lounged around after a night so hot none of us managed to get a decent sleep. It was slightly overcast so we decided it was better to check out the island's activities rather than go snorkelling or on a day trip out to the other islands and beaches.
We ended up having a game of mini golf and then heading out to the rifle range. Last time the family stayed at HI we had visited the rifle range and if i recall correctly was where my all things army began. I just love the power. I am in love, again, with the rifle. I'm also a pretty good shot, all within the 9 and a hand full of bulleyes. Too bad i can't be a rifleman in australia without having a sex change. And that great idea can remain in seventh grade.
Wednesday we booked a day trip which involved a cruise around the main islands and a couple of hours at Whitehaven, snorkelling and the Inlet. So basically, that was wednesday. Oh, did i mention the very cute deck boy heiress to the company? Well i have now :P
That just leaves today, which has involved a lot of Texas Hold Em Poker and lounging.
Tomorrow we will catch a private sea plane into Cairns airport to spend a couple of days in the Daintree.
Oh! I almost forgot to let you in on my favourite part of HI so far! I was studying the Villa's bookcase at the top of the stairs when my eyes fell upon a familiar title. I think i did run around the place for a couple of minutes, full of excitement. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I had searched everywhere in Geelong and Melbourne for that very book not long before we were to leave so i could bring it on holiday with me to read.
I've finished it now and it was everything i had hoped it would be. I've now moved onto, and almost finished a book that was recommended to me a while back, He Died With A Felafel In His Hand.
Part 3 should be up in a two to three days :)
