The older I get, the more I identify certain truths I've been fed as not being truths as all. Such as: "If you do things God's Way (in other words: A, B, then C, but NEVER D), then everything will turn out Perfect!"
While Christianity contains great truths, many Christians themselves are either great liars, or are living in a completely deluded state (they aren't acknowledging the reality of the situation), or are imposing their concept of God's Truth from a single experience in their own life. It gives them no right to insist that we should then follow their example and everything will turn out exactly as it did for them.
There are some Christians in my life who are piously waiting for my marriage to fail. They 'know' this will eventually happen because I didn't follow their fierce conviction of 'God's Way' of going about it. While they, on the other hand, did.
Only YOU can know God's Truth... not an elder, or a mentor, or even the 'strongest Christian'. I believe God's Truth is a much bigger concept than any one human mind can fully encompass. He meets us where we are, according to who we are, the society we live in, and in respect to how we are to develop.
Such truths can't be nailed down into a formula or pattern.... ever. Things will be different and unique to YOU, as anyone who has ever read the Bible cover-to-cover can identify. To anyone looking for 'formulas', the Old Testament God is an entirely different creature from the New Testament God. The answer for each person was unique to them. I doubt God would have me dip in the river seven times if I came to him with a problem.
Of course, keep in mind these are just my own opinions... not to be taken as 'truth'. Spend some time getting to truly know yourself, I do believe that doing so is a type of prayer. I'd also highly recommend learning to hold former convictions with an open hand; God might then blow on them a bit.
